CBD and athletes

CBD comes in several variations.
Broad-spectrum CBD is one of the three main forms of cannabidiol (CBD) that is sold on the market. The others are full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate.
Broad-spectrum CBD contains a range of naturally occurring compounds from the cannabis plant, but typically no THC - the psychoactive component of marijuana.

Why do athletes like CBD?
Though research on CBD is limited, some studies show that CBD is a Non psychoactive and may help in treating several conditions associated with athletic competition, like joint pain, inflammation, and muscle soreness.


While THC can also be used to treat pain, it may cause unwanted side effects and could affect athletic performance.

Pain relief
CBD may relieve or alleviate pain, including musculoskeletal pain during exercise, as well as stiff joints. It is also a useful way to alleviate muscle soreness after training.

Supports digestive metabolism
Small and large intestines inflammation is an often-seen reason for discomfort for the athletes, and especially digestive tract distress, which is the leading cause of athletes dropping out of races.
Of course, CBD will not solve stomach problems, but if you have inflammation problems that contribute to intestine problems, CBD may help.

An alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs and opiods
Athletes have been consuming non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or other painkillers, which may not be as safe in the long run as we think and can cause addiction.
Some research suggests CBD could be used as a way to treat addiction to opioids and other substances with risks of dependence. Cannabinoids are not as effective as opioids in relieving high-intensity acute pain, but they can be effective for long-term natural pain management.

Reduce inflammation
CBD may reduce inflammation and help you recover faster from workouts thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties.
Mild inflammations can be good for athletes and can stimulate positive adaptation to training. In larger quantities, however, they prevent healing and cause pain.

Improving sleep quality
Better sleep is one of the most effective ways an athlete can achieve better training results. CBD helps calm the body after training and may increase sleep quality thanks to the relaxing effect.

Can top athletes use CBD?
In 2018, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) removed the CBD from the list of banned substances. Whether in competition or just in training.
Only CBD has been removed from the list of banned substances. The psychoactive component of marijuana (THC) is still banned in competition, as are synthetic cannabinoids.

CBD and Drug Testing
Utilizing CBD as a natural alternative for pain relief and inflammation can be an ideal choice because it does not appear on drug tests if it does not contain THC.
